Cerro de Oro is the mountain in limits of the Corcovado National Park, is a primary forest with thick vegetation, the Rincon river crosses the mountain keeping it green and live  

 At Cerro de Oro a small ex-mining community develops an ecoturistic project that offers a variety of interesting and educative tours.

The route that we offer initiates in Puerto Jimenez , the tour includes the transportation to Cerro de Oro. 

The transfer takes around 3 hours. In Cerro de Oro you are going to enjoy 2  very interesting tours:

Medicinal plants tour,  "Sanchito" that will give us part of the knowledge that he have accumulated in his  80 years of life, while we walk in the botanical garden and breeding ground, that counts with a great collection of tropical plants from all the Osa Peninsula. 

And the artisan Gold mining tour.

Begin with a short walk in the mountain to get to Rincon River, where you will learn about the gold extraction. With handmade rustic instruments the sand is removed to search little gold "pintas" (small pieces). This tour is lead by an expert guide and counts with the support of a "colegallero" (artisan local miner) who will make the demonstration. 

The guide will give an historical review of the activity of gold extraction in the Peninsula and how this activity have change to give place to other activities as tourism.

After the tour in Cerro de Oro we go back to Puerto Jimenez.

But also if you wish  you can stay at Cerro de Oro Ecolodge and overnight in the heard of the rain Forest.

The next day you can visit the "Escuela de Mariposas", (butterflies breeding ground) Then taste a wonderful breakfast that includes products from the garden.

And  return to Puerto Jimenez.
