Getting to the Osa Peninsula

You can get to the Osa Peninsula various ways:

By Land:

Driving/Renting a Car

  • Driving from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez is about a 8 hour trip. If you do it in two days, or move down the coast slowly, it is much more pleasant. Just make sure you leave enough time to spend at least 2 to 4 days at the Osa peninsula. No one ever wants to leave the Peninsula de Osa.

  • One route is to go down through the center of the country on the Pan-American Highway. They repaired part of the road last year- it is in pretty good shape . Follow the Highway down past San Isidro General, past a lot of pineapple plantations, past a town called Palmar Norte and then finally you will arrive at a Gas Station that says 'Corcovado'. Turn right if you are coming from San Jose. Follow this for aproximatly 60 kilometers until you arrive to Puerto Jimenez.

  • The other route is to take the coast road, it is really beautiful, the landscapes, along the way are amazing and the road is in a very good shape.

  • If you are taking the bus – transportes Blanco Lobo located at calle 12, avenida 7 in San Jose, offers bus services every day at 6:00 a. m. and 12 noon. The trip takes 9 hours.
